After a 12-solar day layoff due to a bye, No. 13 Maryland (v-3, B1G) travels to Iowa Urban center for a matchup with the No. ii Hawkeyes (9-i, B1G) for a 2-game series.
"We are so excited to become on the route," head coach Missy Meharg said. "Awfully excited that Iowa is playing such corking hockey and they accept a lot of returners from last flavour, so they are very seasoned and very sophisticated. We're in a good spot having come off a goodbye to play them this weekend in a double header."
One area that the Terps will wait to build on against the Hawkeyes is their success with punishment corners. In its two-game series against Indiana, Maryland scored three of its eight goals off of penalization corners. Defender Riley Donnelly played a large part in that with iii goals in the last 2 games and a team-high five on the flavour.
"I played with Riley my whole life, then I hateful she is a defender just she is too very versatile," midfielder/forwards Taylor Mason said. "I have played with her in club when she was playing forrad and midfield, like I'g non surprised at all because her skill set is very versatile."
The Terps have also worked on their primal skills during the layoff.
"We take been working a lot on footwork and individual defense," Mason said. I'm really excited considering we accept been taking these points of accent and bringing them to training and all the girls are with us, so nosotros are fully prepared for this game."
However, Iowa has an explosive offense in its own right led by forrard Maddy Murphy the squad leader with five goals. Midfielder Ellie Holiday is the squad's leading facilitator with v assists, while goalie Grace McGuire serves every bit the defensive anchor. She has only allowed four goals in 10 games this season and leads the Big Ten with 6 shutouts.
"I just applaud Iowa," Meharg said. "They are from a region in a country that does not have high school or guild hockey so what [head autobus] Lisa Cellucci and the assistants has afforded to the University of Iowa and the women who play there is phenomenal. I call back what makes them and so special is their subject to the game even though they are not in a layed in hockey expanse. Their coaching staff is outstanding and always has been."
The commencement game will begin Fri at 5 p.yard. followed past the 2nd game on Lord's day at 12:30 p.one thousand., Friday evening'southward competition will air on the Big 10 Network.
